Part 2: ceramic sculpture ready to slip

Part 2: the piece is ready to slip

This piece is about self...in a way...a self-portrait.  For me, it is symbolic of a long struggle to reach my goal...the brass ring so to speak.  Though I've overcome many things (climbed the proverbial mountain) and reached that ring; I have yet to completely acquire it...but I'm still working on it!  My ultimate goal, being in possession of that ring, is to be able to support myself through my artwork.

Taking photos of the process is a neat way for me to mark progress, document the process and to learn from the work I'm doing.  Below are photos of the process up to the point it is now ready to slip.  That part of things will have to happen at school, in the studio, to which I will hopefully be able to snap some shots for a Part 3 for this particular blog. I am also working a plaster sculpture and hope to have a process blog for that posted soon as well.

Thanks for taking an interest!

Clay model idea's for upcoming plaster sculpture

My next sculpting project is to create a sculpture from plaster.  To begin...I made these three small clay sculptures as starting points for the future large plaster sculpture.  I haven't yet decided which one I'll do, but I'm leaning towards either the human figure or the 'baggage'.  It's all in its infant stages right now, but I'm hoping to do both a larger ceramics project as well as the plaster sculpture possibly from just one of these.

Ceramics work in progress: Ingrid Hendrix replica by Susan Komer

This piece is now almost finished.  I've gone through the bisque fire, added glaze & under-glaze for affect and details...my change up will be using a metal axle with wooden wheels as I'd mentioned before.  I'm quite pleased with how this piece is turning out....and have become a HUGE fan of Ingrid's work.

Be sure to check out my past blogs to view a variety of work I've done.  All pieces, if available can be purchased, please contact via email for information regarding the purchase of any piece or photography print...Thank You!

My version of an Ingrid Hendrix ceramics sculpture

I know it has been awhile, but I've been half crazy with my transfer to main campus.  This is my latest sculpture...it is a replication with minor modifications for my ceramics class...the original artist is Ingrid Hendrix...as soon as I saw her work I made a connection....LOVE HER!

Below you'll find some process photo's...it isn't complete just yet...but I think it's ready to slip:)

The original piece is by Ingrid Hendrix...my assignment was to take a piece and replicate yet differ from the original...when I saw her work...WOW...I felt an immediate connection. I have since carved in the feathers...but tomorrow I will add the slip and then fire.  This is my FIRST ceramics piece...hope you all enjoy it:)
